Sweet Talk by Susan Mallery

Just (Didn’t) Finish:
Synopsis: Is there anything sweeter than a first love?

Don”t ask Claire Keyes. The twenty—eight—year—old piano prodigy has never had a regular boyfriend, much less a real romance. Her music career has left little room for friends or family—which is just part of the reason she hasn”t seen the family bakery or her two sisters in years.

But now Nicole is sick, and Jesse is AWOL. Despite the fact that Claire can”t boil water, she”s determined to play caretaker. Connecting with her sisters tops her to—do list…along with falling in love, or at least in lust, for the first time.

Ruggedly sexy Wyatt just might fit the bill. Although he keeps saying that he and Claire come from entirely different worlds, he lights up hotter than a bakery oven whenever Claire is near. If this keeps up, she just might sweet—talk him into her bed…and her life.

My Thoughts: I couldn’t get past page 50. I tried. I just couldn’t. I hated Nicole (the sister), Jessie (the other sister) just disappeared, I didn’t like Wyatt (the love interest), and after 50 plus pages I didn’t feel like I’d gotten to know Claire (the heroine) enough to care one way or the other.

Verdict: This was Awful. I’ve enjoyed the few Susan Mallery books I’ve read in the past, so I’m not giving up on her; but I am doubtful I’ll read the rest of the series.

  1. Sigh. So sorry you didn’t like it… but I didn’t think you would. Wasn’t Nicole a total bitch? ACK. The whole sisters premise just was totally whacked. There is NO redeeming Jesse for even sort of doing what she was accused of. Ugh. I don’t think I’ll be reading the rest either. If you haven’t read the Marcelli books, you should. Those were AWESOME!

  2. Holly ~ Sorry! Honestly, it just left a bad impression. I’ll be trying the Marcelli books instead. I need to take some books on vacation next week, so I’ll be adding those to the pile 🙂Anne ~ Hated Nicole. Jessie wasn’t around at all. Then again, I gave up after page 57. I’ll be reading the Marcelli series soon. They’ve been in my TBR pile for way too long.

  3. Those sisters were just wacky… i mean, talk about dysfunctional! I still don’t understand why they didn’t have contact with Claire… and you’re smart stopping at page 57… cos Jessie does reappear and bleh…The Marcelli books are much better… except for the last one… I didn’t think it was very good.

  4. Nath ~ Yeah, I was thinking of holding on to it to try to read later (like I’m doing with Faking It), but I don’t think it’ll happen. I’ll probably just donate it to the library or post it on paperbackswap.Carolyn ~ I don’t know. I’ve read good books by SM in the past, so I don’t know how this could’ve happened. Even Anne hated it and she loves SM!

  5. You’re not missing anything. I slogged through the whole thing. I actually liked her Buchanans series pretty well, but this one featured approximately 37 rants by Nicole on how Claire ruined her life. Not to mention Wyatt stays a jerk for much of the book.
